Christmas Gift Ideas

I woke up this morning and realised that it's 6 weeks before christmas! Like many Malaysians working overseas, it's not often that we get the luxury to spend christmas with our friends and family back home. Well, it's okay for me because truly I hate Christmas! I know I know. Christmas is about celebrations and joy. We celebrate Christmas on the 25th December each year to commemorate the birth of Jesus and for Malaysians who are none christian, it's a public holiday - which is fantastic since they dont have to go to work!

Well, the reason that I always hated Christmas is because since I was little, I was always sick during Christmas. When I got older, I wont be sick during Christmas but I always have a bad day on that day - and last year's christmas - trust me it's the worst christmas for me. Well, following to what I wrote about The Secret - maybe it's true, it's the laws of attractions. I keep thinking I will have a bad Christmas and I will attract the negative energy. I will change my perception of Christmas this year. I shall stop being a Grinch and start looking forward to the surprises I have installed for my family although I do not have anything planned for myself but a quite day with Mantou!

Christmas is great to celebrate with the family but what do I do since I cant celebrate the occasion with them? Well, I do not have to look any further since the I researched so much to find a perfect gift for my grandmother and found Redribbon Days!

The list below is the things I would like to get for my family members who are living in Malaysia and I got about a month to come out with the sum!

Due to tight budget and time constraint I decided to be unfair and only get presents for people I am closest to and who deserves it!

First and foremost, my dad of course. He is the only one in my family who is supportive of me from young (financially and emotionally)! It was quite difficult to choose something nice for him because really, I think he is a man who has everything. But one thing I know for sure, he loves taking photos! I mean, not taking photos of other people, places, nature but taking photos of himself! So I am going to save RM600 to get him a Couple Potrait Photography so he can take photos with his partner.

Secondly, I have to budget for my grandmother. She has taken good care of me since young and of course I know deep down inside she loves my other cousins more but I truly thing she deserves something nice to do with my other cousins. I will need to have enough more for the French Affair on Christmas Eve for her. The experience is quite pricey but considering it will be done in Carcosa Mansion and she will indulge in a 5 course French meal, I thought, RM621 for 2 people is okay. So I will need to save RM1242 for her and my 3 other cousins (so they can bring her there). I'm not sure whether it applies to most people but I notice that my cousins would not mind taking my grandmother out for a nice dinner - just as long as they do not need to pay for it. So, thats why I need to fork up so much to make her happy and really, I think my grandmother would love the company of her favourite granddaughter more than anything. So, it's a good excuse to make my cousin bring my grandmother out.

As for the most important person in my life, my dear partner who will be flying back to Malaysia during Christmas. I have decided to get her the Menu of Small Tastes - Degustation . So when I get back to Malaysia in January, I can do the experience with her. The best thing about Redribbon Days, my partner will be guaranteed to receive her Christmas gift before Christmas but she can wait for me to do the experience together - to show that i didnt forget to give her something nice on such special occasion but able to delay the celebration to do it with me when we are together again. That is RM540 for 2 people with wine! So, comparing with the degustation meal that I have eaten in Lake Housem the price is cheaper in Malaysia. Let's hope it's good too. Will talk about it after my meal in January.

And for Mantou, I will get him some snacks since everyday is a holiday for him! He just loves lazing around and no matter how tired, when he sees food, he will jump up! I am so glad I have Mantou with me when my partner is away.

Well, Total up I need to have at least AUD792 for the most important people in my life - plus I get to eat the degustation meal in January. So, i think it's worth it. lucky AUD is strong!
